Alma Harmony XL AFT (PhotoFacial)

Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT)

Treat superficial vascular and pigmented irregularities to improve a patient’s skin color. Use a series of approximately five treatments using one of the AFT hand pieces on Harmony:

  • superficial vascular/pigmente
  • vascular/pigmented lesions

Nearly 100% of all people have one or more pigmented lesion. Some are caused by sun exposure, others by aging. Still others are congenital. Regardless of the cause, pigmented lesions are simply spots on the skin where there is a higher concentration of melanin. Some lesions are flat; others are raised. In most cases, pigmented lesions are merely a cosmetic concern, but in some cases, they can be an early sign of skin cancer. For most benign pigmented lesions that are of a cosmetic concern, there is a non-surgical option using the VP hand piece available on the Harmony. By exposing a pigmented lesion to short pulses of visible light, the temperature in the highly concentrated melanin can be raised sharply, enough to shatter the cells containing the melanin. The body then replaces these cells with new cells generated by the surrounding untreated area. The AFT 540 VP hand piece offers unique wavelength and pulse width capabilities, allowing it to treat pigmented lesions on any skin type.

AFT is the next generation of intense pulsed light. It takes formerly unused short-wavelength light and converts it into part of the usable spectrum through a special filtering system. It increases emission and penetration, for safer and more effective treatments. AFT also delivers Equally Distributed Fluence, which means that every pulse has uniform energy density across the entire output face. This fluence ensures repeatable results and remarkable safety. AFT yields a more efficient system for ideal clinical improvements, less discomfort and minimal skin damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT)  treatment safe?

A: Yes AFT has been used on thousands of patients across the globe with beautiful results.

Q: How long will a treatment take?

A: Typically a treatment will take 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Q: What is the typical “down time” after the procedure?

A: No extended “down time” or recovery time is needed. The patient may experience edema, but they will be able to return to work, school or other day-to-day activities after the procedure.

Q: What conditions can be treated?

A: AFT treatments will remove sun spots (face, chest, neck, and hands), remove sun damage, remove facial veins, reduce spider veins, reduce skin redness/rose colored cheeks (rosacea).

Q: How long will my results last?

A: It depends on the patient’s age and sun exposure. Periodic touch-up treatments can help to maintain the healthy glow.
