Technologies:

The GentleYAG is the fastest and most powerful Nd:YAG laser on the market today. It effectively treats all skin types, including tanned skin, offering unmatched treatment capabilities in permanent hair reduction, leg veins, facial veins, and wrinkles. Treat patients year-round with GentleYAG’s 1064nm wavelength, multiple spot sizes, variable pulse durations and Candela’s patented cryogen cooling system (DCDtm) for maximum patient comfort and safety.

Fast – With unprecedented 18 mm spot size and repetition rates up to 2 Hz, the GentleYAG offers fast treatment times with fewer laser pulses.

Powerful – 26,333 watts of peak power and capable of delivering fluences up to 600 J/cm² for vascular applications, and hair removal energies in pulse durations as short as 3 ms for unparalleled treatment efficacies.

Treats all skin types – Deep penetration with minimal scattering of laser energy makes the GentleYAG ideal for all skin types, especially dark and tanned skin.

Versatile – Non-ablative treatment, including fine lines and wrinkles, and for pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), or beard bumps, leg and facial veins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the laser work?

A: The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat. For patient comfort, the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) technology protects the upper layers of the skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatments with minimal side effects.

Q: What conditions can be treated?

A: The laser will remove facial and body hair, vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, and wrinkles.

Q: What does the treatment include?

A: Depending on the area treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient. Generally, the treatment will include: wearing safety eyewear to protect the practitioner and patient’s eyes from the laser light during the procedure. A small hand piece will be used that touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse. A test area will be done prior to the entire treatment. Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device. The degree of discomfort varies with each person, depending on his/her pain threshold. Topical anesthesia may also be requested based on individual preferences or tolerances. The procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour, depending on the area treatment. The treated area may become pink or red within 30 minutes of treatment; this may last from a few hours to several days and is relieved with the application of ice or cooling gels.

Q: What precautions should be taken before and after treatment?

A: Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Hair removal patients must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment. If there is a history of per oral herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Photosensitive drugs must be discontinued 3 to 5 days before treatment.

Q: How many treatments will be needed?

A: The number of treatments depends on the treatment require and the condition of the skin. For hair removal, most patients require 4 to 6 treatments, as the process is only effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth stage. Other conditions require anywhere from 2 to 6 treatments. Many factors impact the efficacy of individual treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.

Q: What are the side effects?

A: Risks are minimal. Side effects may include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypo pigmentation and swelling in the treated area. These side effects usually do not last for more than a few days. Permanent side effects such as hyperpigmentation or hypo pigmentation or scarring are rare.

Q: Is this procedure covered by insurance?

A: Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. However, consult with your insurance carrier for more information.
